GIRL'S TALK: INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL + SEX EDUCATION

In Commemoration of the day of the girl-child... little girls with dreams become women of vision

Every 11th October, the world celebrates the International day of the girl and on social media #dayofthegirl trends in support of the girl child to increase awareness and address issues affecting the girl child such as access to education, inequality, nutrition, legal rights, medical care and protection from discrimination, gender based violence and child marriage.

Each year's Day of Girls usually has a theme; and 2018 was no different as the theme was “With Her: A Skilled Girl Force”. This is aimed at ensuring that the girl child attains skills for employability and has access to higher paying jobs.

In case you are still wondering why this day is important and celebrated, I have explained it here.

Of the issues faced by the girl child, sexual violence is sadly one that many girls have had to face  and sex education is one of the solutions to this menace. She needs to be aware of her sexuality.

As a friend, sister, aunt, mother, we are all called on to support her; her dreams, hopes, visions and aspirations. They are worth achieving. She can be all she wants to be; a doctor, entrepreneur, lawyer, engineer, astronaut, scientist, actress, teacher... with  the right support and guidance.

Happy International Day of the Girl 💓

Every child deserves to reach her or his full potential, but gender inequalities in their lives and in the lives of those who care for them hinder this reality ...UNICEF
